Weaving bonds of cooperation
Working to create opportunities for local communities and to build responsible partnerships.
Sustainable Development, Shared Benefits
Our goal: a project that promotes collaboration with Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities to address their concerns and aspirations.
Community
Collaborative Energy Creates Lasting Impact
We are committed to building strong and mutually beneficial partnerships with communities, including the Cree community of Chisasibi, by promoting transparency and aiming for shared prosperity.
At the Shaakichiuwaanaan Project, we implement an engagement approach rooted in a culture of respect. We seek opportunities to generate or enhance positive impacts, such as contributing to the social and economic growth of our communities by prioritizing local procurement and employment, and by investing in sustainable community and educational initiatives. Here are some specific examples:
- Cultural respect: Renamed the Corvette Project to Shaakichiuwaanaan with Cree community support.
- Economic impact: $23.2M in 2025 procurement with Indigenous businesses; 123 Indigenous workers engaged.
- Community engagement: Hosted site ceremonies and feasts with ~40 community members.
- Environmental partnership: Worked with Cree-owned Niigaan on multi-year baseline studies.
